Holi Festival !!! Celebration and Quotes

Holi

Holi  is a very ancient Hindu Festival also known as the "festival of spring", the "festival of colours", and the "festival of love". The festival signifies the victory of good over evil.

The festival of Holi signifies Spring , Love and New Life. It is celebrated as a day of spreading Happiness and Thanksgiving for good harvest. Holi starts on the evening of Purnima (full moon day) of Phalguna. The festival is celebrated in two ways, Holika Dahan or Chhoti Holi and Dhuleti, Dhulandi or Phagwah. The celebration starts on the night before Holi with Holika Dahan where religious rituals happen in front of the bonfire.

Holi celebrations

Holi is celebrated for two days:

Day 1Holika Dahan is auspicious part of this  festival Holi.” Holika “sister of the king of demon” Hiranyakashap”  depicts the evil inside you, Dahan means submission to eternal power. Mothers with their babies take five rounds of the bonfire in a clockwise direction to seek the blessing of the God of fire.

Day 2.     People spend the whole day throwing colored water and powder all over each other's faces and host special  Holi events with music,  dances, colors  and enjoying a plate of delicious gujiyas together.

The deities of Radha and Krishna are also worshipped.

.

According to Indian mythology, Hiranyakashap--the king of  Asuras, could neither be killed by a man or an animal . He developed arrogance and started taking  himself as a God so forced  everybody to worship him as a God . Prahlada, the son of the king disagreed and and kept on worshipping  Lord Vishnu. Hiranyakashap became furious and gave his son cruel punishments.  Holika, the king's sister, also supported her brother and  tricked Prahlada to sit on a pyre with her.  Holika. was incapacitated by Lord Vishnu in the fire when she was trying to burn and harm Prahlad and saved prahalad’s life being his devotee.

Later, Lord Vishnu came in the avatar of Narsimha to kill the king. So, Holi begins with the Holika bonfire, which marks . burning effigies of HOLIKA in form of some old trunk and sticks . depicting the submission of evil inside them in holy fire.
